When we want change we can often paint a mental picture of our ambitions, then, usually our subconscious kicks in and, unbidden, delivers plenty of different reasons as to why we won’t, can’t or shouldn’t achieve our goals.
Your toughest opponent is the one inside your own head
When we were defenceless babies there were three things that we were hardwired to see as threats: falling, loud noises and being abandoned.
By adulthood we’ve, by and large, got falling, loud noises and being abandoned under control; however, the fear of rejection, failure and criticism take over. These are learned, self-generated fears that we create for ourselves, to a greater or lesser degree, from our life experiences. Our fears are largely self-imposed.
Literally railroaded or ‘blocked’ by our fears we lose confidence, become less positive, our heads drop and the only good view we’ve got is of the floor – sound familiar?
If we accept our fears are self-imposed we can acknowledge them, challenge them, re frame how we see situations and create lasting change.
